Medical Equipment

Q. Are compression stockings covered by my insurance with a prescription?

Answer. Short answer, no. But in certain scenarios with proper diagnosis' they can be eligible. The Medicare language reads "Stockings in 30/40 compression and 40/50 compression are only eligible for reimbursement when furnished in conjunction with a urological, ostomy, or tracheostomy supply - or a prosthetic device, prosthetic or orthotic - or a surgical dressing. ICD:10 codes provided from the MD must corroborate the conjoining issue to be eligible for coverage." What this means is that compression stockings 20/30 compression and below are never eligible for reimbursement, and stockings 30/40 compression and above are only eligible for reimbursement when the above guidelines are met.
